Ingredients

  • Beef (sliced, halal) - 300 grams
  • Onion (sliced) - 1 medium
  • Soy sauce (halal) - 4 tablespoons
  • Mirin - 2 tablespoons
  • Sake (halal) - 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Dashi stock (halal) - 200 ml
  • Cooked white rice - 2 cups
  • Green onions (sliced) - for garnish
  • Pickled ginger - for garnish
  • Sesame seeds - for garnish

Steps

  1. In a medium pot, combine dashi stock, soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add the sliced onions to the pot and simmer for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the sliced beef to the pot and cook for another 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is cooked through.
  4. While the beef is cooking, prepare the rice according to package instructions if not already cooked.
  5. Once the beef and onion mixture is ready, serve immediately over bowls of hot cooked rice.
  6. Garnish with sliced green onions, pickled ginger, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds before serving.
