Ingredients

  • Halal beef (thinly sliced) - 250 grams
  • Onion (medium, thinly sliced) - 1
  • Soy sauce (halal) - 3 tablespoons
  • Mirin (halal) - 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Dashi stock (or water) - 200 ml
  • Cooked rice - 2 cups
  • Green onions (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Pickled ginger (for garnish) - to taste
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish) - to taste

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine dashi stock, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onion to the saucepan and cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the thinly sliced beef to the saucepan, stirring occasionally. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the beef is fully cooked and tender.
  4. While the beef is cooking, prepare 2 cups of cooked rice in bowls.
  5. Once the beef is cooked, spoon the beef and onion mixture over the rice in each bowl.
  6. Garnish with chopped green onions, pickled ginger, and sesame seeds as desired.
