- Halal beef (thinly sliced) - 250 grams
- Onion (medium, thinly sliced) - 1
- Soy sauce (halal) - 3 tablespoons
- Mirin (halal) - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Dashi stock (or water) - 200 ml
- Cooked rice - 2 cups
- Green onions (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Pickled ginger (for garnish) - to taste
- Sesame seeds (for garnish) - to taste
Steps
- In a medium saucepan, combine dashi stock, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onion to the saucepan and cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the saucepan, stirring occasionally. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the beef is fully cooked and tender.
- While the beef is cooking, prepare 2 cups of cooked rice in bowls.
- Once the beef is cooked, spoon the beef and onion mixture over the rice in each bowl.
- Garnish with chopped green onions, pickled ginger, and sesame seeds as desired.
