- Mirin (kosher) - 2 tablespoons
- Sake (kosher) - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Water - 150 milliliters
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
- Cooked jasmine rice - 2 cups
- Green onions, chopped - 2 tablespoons
- Pickled ginger, for garnish - optional
Steps
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the sliced beef to the pan, cooking for 2-3 minutes until browned.
- In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, and water until the sugar is dissolved.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and onions, reduce the heat to medium, and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the beef is simmering, prepare the jasmine rice according to package instructions if not already cooked.
- Once the sauce has thickened slightly and the beef is tender, remove from heat.
- Serve the beef mixture over bowls of jasmine rice, garnished with chopped green onions and pickled ginger if desired.
