Ingredients

  • Beef sirloin - 300 grams
  • Almond flour - 50 grams
  • Pork rinds, crushed - 30 grams
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Avocado oil - 50 ml
  • Soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free) - 30 ml
  • Mirin (optional) - 10 ml
  • Green onions, chopped - for garnish

Steps

  1. Slice the beef sirloin into 1.5 cm thick cutlets against the grain. Use a meat mallet to gently pound the cutlets to tenderize them.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix the almond flour, crushed pork rinds, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg until well mixed.
  4. Dip each beef cutlet first into the beaten egg, allowing the excess to drip off, then coat it in the almond flour and pork rind mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. Heat the avocado oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the coated beef cutlets, cooking for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove the cutlets from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  7. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce and mirin (if using) to create a dipping sauce.
  8. Serve the Gyu-Katsu hot, garnished with chopped green onions, alongside the dipping sauce.
