Ingredients

  • Beef sirloin - 250 grams
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour - 1/4 cup
  • Egg - 1 large, beaten
  • Panko breadcrumbs - 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil - 1/2 cup (for frying)
  • Tonkatsu sauce - 4 tablespoons
  • Shredded cabbage - 1 cup (for serving)
  • Lemon wedges - 2 (for serving)

Steps

  1. Slice the beef sirloin into 1 cm thick cutlets and season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  2. Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with all-purpose flour, one with the beaten egg, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Dredge each beef cutlet in flour, shaking off excess, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until hot (about 180°C or 350°F).
  5. Carefully add the breaded beef cutlets to the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary, for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked to your desired doneness.
  6. Remove the fried cutlets and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Slice the cooked Gyu Katsu into strips and serve immediately with tonkatsu sauce, shredded cabbage, and lemon wedges on the side.
