Ingredients
- Beef sirloin - 250 grams
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1/4 cup
- Egg - 1 large, beaten
- Panko breadcrumbs - 1 cup
- Vegetable oil - 1/2 cup (for frying)
- Tonkatsu sauce - 4 tablespoons
- Shredded cabbage - 1 cup (for serving)
- Lemon wedges - 2 (for serving)
Steps
- Slice the beef sirloin into 1 cm thick cutlets and season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with all-purpose flour, one with the beaten egg, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each beef cutlet in flour, shaking off excess, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until hot (about 180°C or 350°F).
- Carefully add the breaded beef cutlets to the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary, for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked to your desired doneness.
- Remove the fried cutlets and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Slice the cooked Gyu Katsu into strips and serve immediately with tonkatsu sauce, shredded cabbage, and lemon wedges on the side.
