Ingredients

  • Halal ground beef - 250 grams
  • Goya (bitter melon) - 100 grams
  • Burger buns - 2 pieces
  • Miso paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Spring onion - 1, finely chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. Slice the goya in half lengthwise, remove seeds, and thinly slice it into half-moon shapes.
  2. In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat and add the sliced goya. Stir-fry for about 5-7 minutes until tender. Add minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix the miso paste, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Pour this mixture over the goya and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, then set aside.
  4. In a separate bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form the beef into two patties.
  5. In the same skillet, add more vegetable oil if needed and cook the patties over medium heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until cooked to your preferred doneness.
  6. Toast the burger buns in the skillet until golden brown.
  7. Assemble the burgers: place a patty on each bun, top with the stir-fried goya mixture, and sprinkle with chopped spring onion. Close the burger with the top bun.
  8. Serve immediately with your choice of sides.
