Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • granulated sugar - 30 grams
  • active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • salt - 2 grams
  • warm water - 120 milliliters
  • vegetable oil - 15 milliliters
  • red bean paste (sweetened) - 100 grams
  • cornstarch - for dusting

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30-40 minutes or until doubled in size.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces.
  7. Flatten each piece of dough into a circle and place about 25 grams of red bean paste in the center of each circle.
  8. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal tightly, forming a smooth ball.
  9. Place the filled buns seam-side down on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, cover, and let rise for another 20 minutes.
  10. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  11. Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Let them cool slightly before serving.
