- Beef sirloin - 250 grams, thinly sliced
- Onion - 1 medium, thinly sliced
- Soy sauce (Halal) - 3 tablespoons
- Mirin - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Dashi stock - 200 ml (or water with dashi powder)
- Cooked rice - 300 grams
- Green onions - 2, chopped for garnish
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (optional)
- Pickled ginger - for serving (optional)
Steps
- Prepare the ingredients by thinly slicing the beef and onion.
- In a medium saucepan, combine dashi stock, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions to the saucepan and simmer until they become translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the pan, stirring occasionally until the beef is cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- While the beef is cooking, prepare the cooked rice in bowls.
- Once the beef is cooked, spoon the beef and onion mixture over the rice, including some of the sauce.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
- Serve hot with pickled ginger on the side.
