Ingredients
- Boneless chicken thighs - 250 grams (cut into bite-sized pieces)
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Sake (or rice vinegar) - 1 tablespoon
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Brown sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Green onions - 2 (chopped)
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 1 clove (minced)
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon (grated)
- Mixed vegetables (carrots, bell peppers, and mushrooms) - 100 grams (chopped)
- Puff pastry - 1 sheet (thawed)
- Egg - 1 (beaten, for egg wash)
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for topping)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, sake, mirin, brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger to make the yakitori marinade.
- Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and let them soak for about 15 minutes.
- In a skillet, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken (discard excess marinade) and sauté until cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the chopped mixed vegetables to the skillet and cook for an additional 5 minutes until softened. Stir in the chopped green onions and remove from heat.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to fit a small pie dish. Place half of the pastry in the dish, allowing the edges to hang over.
- Fill the pie shell with the chicken and vegetable mixture evenly.
- Cover the filling with the other half of the puff pastry, sealing the edges by crimping with a fork. Cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top with the beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds over it.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
