- Unagi (grilled eel) - 200 grams
- Cooked Japanese short-grain rice - 300 grams
- Soy sauce (Halal) - 3 tablespoons
- Mirin (Halal) - 2 tablespoons
- Sake (Halal) - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Nori (seaweed) - 2 sheets, cut into strips
- Spring onions - 2 tablespoons, finely sliced
- Pickled ginger - for garnish
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. Heat over low heat until the sugar dissolves, then remove from heat.
- Place the grilled eel on a baking dish and brush it generously with the sauce mixture.
- Bake the eel in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes until heated through and slightly caramelized.
- While the eel is baking, prepare the rice according to package instructions if not already cooked.
- Once the eel is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for a couple of minutes before slicing it into bite-sized pieces.
- To serve, divide the cooked rice between two bowls. Arrange the sliced eel on top of the rice.
- Drizzle any remaining sauce over the eel and rice, and finish with a sprinkle of sesame oil, nori strips, and sliced spring onions. Add pickled ginger on the side for garnish.
