Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Sugar - 10 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Warm water - 150 ml
  • Vegetable oil - 15 ml
  • Japanese curry roux - 100 grams
  • Ground chicken (or any halal meat) - 100 grams
  • Onion - 1 small, diced
  • Carrot - 1 small, diced
  • Green peas - 50 grams
  • Egg - 1, for egg wash

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil, knead until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes).
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  4. In a pan, sauté the diced onions and carrots until soft. Add ground chicken and cook until browned.
  5. Add the Japanese curry roux and green peas to the pan with the chicken mixture. Follow package instructions, usually adding water to create a thick sauce. Cook until thickened, then let it cool.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a flat circle.
  7. Place a spoonful of the curry filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges over and pinch to seal.
  8. Place the filled dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them rise for another 15 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the dough.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
