- Instant yeast - 5 grams
- Salt - 3 grams
- Milk (warm) - 100 ml
- Unsalted butter (melted) - 20 grams
- Egg (beaten) - 1 small
- Red bean paste (sweetened) - 100 grams
- Water (for steaming) - 200 ml
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and beaten egg until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces.
- Flatten each piece of dough into a circle, place a tablespoon of red bean paste in the center, and fold the edges over to seal it, forming a ball.
- Place the filled dough balls seam side down on a parchment-lined steaming tray.
- Cover with a cloth and let them rise for another 15 minutes.
- While they rise, bring water to a boil in a steamer or pot.
- Once the dough balls have risen, steam them for about 15 minutes until they are fluffy and cooked through.
- Remove from the steamer and let cool slightly before serving.
