Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Cornstarch - 3 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 1/2 cup (for frying)
  • Dashi broth (vegan) - 1 cup
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Mirin - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions - 2, finely chopped
  • Grated daikon radish - 1/4 cup
  • Nori seaweed - 1 sheet, cut into strips

Steps

  1. Drain the tofu for about 15 minutes to remove excess water, then cut it into 6 equal cubes.
  2. Pat the tofu cubes dry with a paper towel, then lightly coat each cube in cornstarch.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
  4. Carefully add the tofu cubes to the hot oil, frying until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. In a separate pot, combine the vegan dashi broth, soy sauce, and mirin. Bring to a gentle simmer and keep warm.
  6. To serve, place the fried tofu in a shallow bowl, pour the warm broth over the tofu, and top with grated daikon radish, chopped green onions, and nori strips.
