Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Cornstarch - 3 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - 1/2 cup (for frying)
- Dashi broth (vegan) - 1 cup
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Green onions - 2, finely chopped
- Grated daikon radish - 1/4 cup
- Nori seaweed - 1 sheet, cut into strips
Steps
- Drain the tofu for about 15 minutes to remove excess water, then cut it into 6 equal cubes.
- Pat the tofu cubes dry with a paper towel, then lightly coat each cube in cornstarch.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
- Carefully add the tofu cubes to the hot oil, frying until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In a separate pot, combine the vegan dashi broth, soy sauce, and mirin. Bring to a gentle simmer and keep warm.
- To serve, place the fried tofu in a shallow bowl, pour the warm broth over the tofu, and top with grated daikon radish, chopped green onions, and nori strips.
