Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 400 grams
  • Breadcrumbs - 50 grams
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Oregano - 1 teaspoon, dried
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Bun - 2
  • Caponata (eggplant relish) - 100 grams
  • Fresh basil leaves - for garnish

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into two equal parts and form each part into a patty, about 2 cm thick.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  4. While the burgers are cooking, toast the burger buns in the same skillet until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Once the burgers are cooked, remove them from the skillet and let them rest for a couple of minutes.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing each beef patty on a toasted bun, topping with a generous spoonful of caponata and a few fresh basil leaves.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
