Ingredients

  • Italian sausage - 250 grams
  • Mushrooms (cremini or button) - 200 grams, sliced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Mozzarella cheese - 50 grams, shredded
  • Lettuce leaves - 4 large, for wrapping
  • Red onion - 1/4, thinly sliced

Steps

  1. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes until they are soft and golden.
  3. Add minced garlic, salt, and black pepper to the mushrooms, and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  4. Remove the mushroom mixture from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and increase the heat to medium-high.
  6. Remove the sausage from its casing and shape it into two patties.
  7. Place the sausage patties in the skillet and cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and browned.
  8. During the last minute of cooking, top each sausage patty with shredded mozzarella cheese, allowing it to melt.
  9. To assemble, place each sausage patty on a large lettuce leaf, top with the sautéed mushrooms, sliced red onion, and sprinkle with fresh parsley.
  10. Wrap the lettuce around the filling and serve immediately.
