Ingredients

  • Italian sausage (bulk, not in casings) - 300 grams
  • Broccoli rabe (friarielli) - 200 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Red pepper flakes - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Lemon - 1, juiced

Steps

  1. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.
  2. Remove the cooked sausage from the skillet and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.
  3. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, sautéing for about 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant.
  4. Add the broccoli rabe to the skillet, stirring to coat it with the garlic oil. Cook for about 5 minutes until the broccoli rabe is tender but still vibrant green.
  5. Return the cooked sausage to the skillet with the broccoli rabe. Season with salt and black pepper to taste, and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
  6. Remove from heat, drizzle with lemon juice, and serve hot.
