- Italian sausage (bulk, no casing) - 300 grams
- Mozzarella cheese (sliced) - 100 grams
- Fresh basil leaves - 15 grams
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - ½ teaspoon
- Black pepper - ½ teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Romaine lettuce leaves (for wrapping) - 4 large leaves
- Cherry tomatoes (halved) - 100 grams
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the bulk Italian sausage with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Divide the sausage mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about 1.5 cm thick.
- Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the sausage patties and cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and golden brown.
- During the last minute of cooking, place the mozzarella slices on top of the patties and cover the skillet with a lid to melt the cheese.
- While the patties are cooking, wash the romaine lettuce leaves and cherry tomatoes.
- Once the patties are cooked and the cheese is melted, remove them from the skillet and let them rest for a minute.
- To assemble, place each sausage patty on a large romaine lettuce leaf, top with fresh basil leaves and halved cherry tomatoes, then wrap the lettuce around the patty to serve.
