- Ground turkey - 300 grams
- Whole wheat breadcrumbs - 50 grams
- Parmesan cheese, grated - 30 grams
- Egg - 1 large
- Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
- Fresh parsley, chopped - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Canned crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Onion, finely chopped - 1 small
- Red chili flakes - 1/4 teaspoon (optional)
- Water - 100 milliliters
Steps
- In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into meatballs, about 4-5 cm in diameter, and set aside on a plate.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the canned crushed tomatoes, water, and red chili flakes (if using) to the skillet. Bring to a simmer.
- Carefully place the meatballs into the simmering sauce. Cover and cook for 20-25 minutes, turning the meatballs occasionally until cooked through.
- Serve the polpette al sugo hot, garnished with additional parsley and a sprinkle of Parmesan if desired.
