Ingredients

  • Ground turkey - 300 grams
  • Whole wheat breadcrumbs - 50 grams
  • Parmesan cheese, grated - 30 grams
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Fresh parsley, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Canned crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Onion, finely chopped - 1 small
  • Red chili flakes - 1/4 teaspoon (optional)
  • Water - 100 milliliters

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 4-5 cm in diameter, and set aside on a plate.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the canned crushed tomatoes, water, and red chili flakes (if using) to the skillet. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Carefully place the meatballs into the simmering sauce. Cover and cook for 20-25 minutes, turning the meatballs occasionally until cooked through.
  6. Serve the polpette al sugo hot, garnished with additional parsley and a sprinkle of Parmesan if desired.
