Ingredients
- Penne pasta - 200 grams
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
- Canned diced tomatoes - 400 grams
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Fresh basil leaves - a handful, torn
- Parmesan cheese - for serving (optional)
Steps
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 10-12 minutes.
- While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Stir in the red chili flakes and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Add the canned diced tomatoes to the skillet, along with salt and black pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Once the pasta is cooked, drain it and add it to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to combine, allowing the pasta to absorb the flavors.
- Remove from heat and stir in the torn basil leaves.
- Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese on top if desired.
