- Fresh basil leaves - a handful, torn
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Red pepper flakes - a pinch (optional)
- Grated Parmesan cheese - for serving (optional)
Steps
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
- While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Add the halved cherry tomatoes to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes until they begin to soften.
- Stir in the drained tuna, breaking it up gently with a fork, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.
- Once the pasta is cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water and then drain the pasta.
- Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the tuna and tomato mixture, tossing to combine.
- If the dish seems dry, add some reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir in the torn basil leaves.
- Serve immediately, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
