Ingredients

  • Pasta (spaghetti or linguine) - 150 grams
  • Broccoli florets - 200 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon zest - 1 teaspoon
  • Red pepper flakes - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped

Steps

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. In the last 3 minutes of cooking the pasta, add the broccoli florets to the boiling water with the pasta.
  3. While the pasta and broccoli are cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, sautéing for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
  4. Once the pasta and broccoli are cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain the rest and add the pasta and broccoli directly to the skillet with the garlic.
  5. Stir in the lemon juice, lemon zest, and reserved pasta water, tossing everything together to combine. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
