  • Carrot - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Celery - 1 stalk, finely chopped
  • Canned tomatoes - 400 grams
  • Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Red wine - 100 ml
  • Milk - 200 ml
  • Butter - 30 grams
  • All-purpose flour - 30 grams
  • Parmesan cheese - 50 grams, grated
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, carrot, and celery, sautéing until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef and ground pork to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 7-10 minutes.
  3. Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  4. In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to create a roux.
  5. Gradually add milk to the roux, whisking constantly until thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
  6. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  7. In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by a layer of lasagna sheets. Repeat the layers, ending with béchamel sauce on top.
  8. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil.
