Ingredients

  • Lasagna sheets - 6 pieces
  • Ground beef (kosher) - 200 grams
  • Onion, finely chopped - 1 medium (about 100 grams)
  • Carrot, finely chopped - 1 small (about 50 grams)
  • Celery, finely chopped - 1 stalk (about 50 grams)
  • Garlic, minced - 1 clove
  • Canned crushed tomatoes - 200 grams
  • Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Milk - 250 ml
  • Butter - 30 grams
  • All-purpose flour - 30 grams
  • Nutmeg - a pinch
  • Parmesan cheese, grated - 50 grams

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery, sautéing until softened (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add the minced garlic and ground beef to the skillet, cooking until the beef is browned (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat and let simmer for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare the béchamel sauce. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, cooking for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  6. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Season with a pinch of nutmeg and salt.
  7. In a baking dish, spread a layer of Bolognese sauce on the bottom, followed by a layer of lasagna sheets, then a layer of béchamel sauce. Repeat the layers, finishing with béchamel on top.
  8. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top layer.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  10. Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
