- Onion, finely chopped - 1 medium (about 100 grams)
- Carrot, finely chopped - 1 small (about 50 grams)
- Celery, finely chopped - 1 stalk (about 50 grams)
- Garlic, minced - 1 clove
- Canned crushed tomatoes - 200 grams
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Milk - 250 ml
- Butter - 30 grams
- All-purpose flour - 30 grams
- Nutmeg - a pinch
- Parmesan cheese, grated - 50 grams
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery, sautéing until softened (about 5 minutes).
- Add the minced garlic and ground beef to the skillet, cooking until the beef is browned (about 5-7 minutes).
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat and let simmer for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile, prepare the béchamel sauce. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, cooking for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Season with a pinch of nutmeg and salt.
- In a baking dish, spread a layer of Bolognese sauce on the bottom, followed by a layer of lasagna sheets, then a layer of béchamel sauce. Repeat the layers, finishing with béchamel on top.
- Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top layer.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
