Ingredients

  • Zucchini noodles - 400 grams
  • Ground beef - 200 grams
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 small, chopped
  • Canned crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
  • Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Ricotta cheese - 100 grams
  • Mozzarella cheese - 100 grams, shredded
  • Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated
  • Fresh basil - a handful, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes.
  5. While the sauce simmers, prepare the zucchini noodles. If you haven't already, spiralize the zucchini into noodles and set aside.
  6. In a baking dish, layer half of the zucchini noodles, followed by half of the meat sauce, and dollops of ricotta cheese.
  7. Repeat the layers with the remaining zucchini noodles, meat sauce, and top with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
  8. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  10. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
