Ingredients

  • Seitan - 200 grams
  • Breadcrumbs - 50 grams
  • Fresh basil - 10 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves
  • Red onion - 50 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oregano - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lettuce leaves - 2 pieces
  • Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Whole grain burger buns - 2 pieces

Steps

  1. Finely chop the red onion and garlic, and place them in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add the seitan to the bowl and mash it with a fork until it becomes a coarse mixture.
  3. Mix in the breadcrumbs, chopped basil, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and oregano until well combined.
  4. Form the mixture into two burger patties.
  5. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  6. Cook the patties for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.
  7. While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns in the same skillet until lightly browned.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the seitan patty, then top with the other half of the bun.
  9. Serve immediately with your favorite condiments.
