- Seitan - 200 grams
- Breadcrumbs - 50 grams
- Fresh basil - 10 grams
- Garlic - 2 cloves
- Red onion - 50 grams
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Smoked paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
- Oregano - 1/2 teaspoon
- Lettuce leaves - 2 pieces
- Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
- Whole grain burger buns - 2 pieces
Steps
- Finely chop the red onion and garlic, and place them in a mixing bowl.
- Add the seitan to the bowl and mash it with a fork until it becomes a coarse mixture.
- Mix in the breadcrumbs, chopped basil, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and oregano until well combined.
- Form the mixture into two burger patties.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Cook the patties for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.
- While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns in the same skillet until lightly browned.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the seitan patty, then top with the other half of the bun.
- Serve immediately with your favorite condiments.
