Ingredients
- Italian sausage (bulk, not in casings) - 400 grams
- Parmesan cheese, grated - 50 grams
- Fresh basil, chopped - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Romaine lettuce leaves - 4 large
- Tomato, sliced - 1 medium
- Mozzarella cheese, sliced - 50 grams
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the bulk Italian sausage, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped basil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Divide the sausage mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties about 1.5 cm thick.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the sausage patties to the skillet.
- Cook the patties for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until they are fully cooked and have a nice golden brown crust. Use a meat thermometer to ensure they reach an internal temperature of 75°C.
- While the patties are cooking, prepare the lettuce wraps by washing and drying the romaine leaves. Set aside.
- Once the patties are cooked, place a slice of mozzarella cheese on each patty and cover the skillet for 1-2 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
- To assemble, place each sausage patty on a large romaine lettuce leaf, top with slices of tomato, and any additional toppings you desire. Wrap the lettuce around the patty and enjoy.
