Ingredients

  • Italian sausage (bulk, not in casings) - 400 grams
  • Parmesan cheese, grated - 50 grams
  • Fresh basil, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Romaine lettuce leaves - 4 large
  • Tomato, sliced - 1 medium
  • Mozzarella cheese, sliced - 50 grams

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the bulk Italian sausage, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped basil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the sausage mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties about 1.5 cm thick.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the sausage patties to the skillet.
  4. Cook the patties for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until they are fully cooked and have a nice golden brown crust. Use a meat thermometer to ensure they reach an internal temperature of 75°C.
  5. While the patties are cooking, prepare the lettuce wraps by washing and drying the romaine leaves. Set aside.
  6. Once the patties are cooked, place a slice of mozzarella cheese on each patty and cover the skillet for 1-2 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  7. To assemble, place each sausage patty on a large romaine lettuce leaf, top with slices of tomato, and any additional toppings you desire. Wrap the lettuce around the patty and enjoy.
