Ingredients

  • Potato gnocchi - 400 grams
  • Canned crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
  • Fresh mozzarella cheese - 150 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh basil - 10 leaves, chopped
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Grated Parmesan cheese - 30 grams

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add the canned crushed tomatoes, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Stir in the chopped basil and remove the sauce from heat.
  5. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the potato gnocchi and cook according to package instructions until they float to the top, usually about 2-3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  6. In a baking dish, spread a layer of the tomato sauce on the bottom. Add half of the gnocchi, followed by half of the mozzarella cheese. Pour half of the remaining sauce over the top.
  7. Repeat the layers with the remaining gnocchi, sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Finish by sprinkling grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, then garnish with additional fresh basil before serving.
