Ingredients

  • Green beans - 200 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Canned crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
  • Fresh basil - 5 leaves, torn
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Red pepper flakes - 1/4 teaspoon (optional)
  • Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated (optional)

Steps

  1. Wash and trim the green beans, removing the ends.
  2. In a medium pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and blanch for 3-4 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir well. Add the torn basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the blanched green beans to the tomato sauce, mixing well to coat them. Cook for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Serve warm, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
