Ingredients
- Freshly brewed espresso - 2 shots (60 ml)
- Milk - 150 ml (for frothing)
- Sugar - 2 teaspoons (optional)
- All-purpose flour - 250 grams
- Unsalted butter - 100 grams (softened)
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Active dry yeast - 7 grams
- Warm milk - 100 ml
- Egg - 1 (for egg wash)
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Powdered sugar - for dusting
Steps
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, softened butter, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the yeast mixture and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients, and knead until a smooth dough forms, about 10 minutes.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Roll out the risen dough into a rectangular shape, about 0.5 cm thick. Cut into triangles.
- Starting from the wide end, roll each triangle tightly to form a crescent shape. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the cornetti for a golden finish.
- Let the cornetti rise for another 20 minutes.
- Bake the cornetti in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the cornetti are baking, prepare the cappuccino by frothing the milk and combining it with the espresso. Add sugar if desired.
- Serve the cappuccino hot alongside the freshly baked cornetti, dusted with powdered sugar.
