Ingredients

  • Freshly brewed espresso - 2 shots (60 ml)
  • Milk - 150 ml (for frothing)
  • Sugar - 2 teaspoons (optional)
  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Unsalted butter - 100 grams (softened)
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Active dry yeast - 7 grams
  • Warm milk - 100 ml
  • Egg - 1 (for egg wash)
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, softened butter, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients, and knead until a smooth dough forms, about 10 minutes.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  6. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangular shape, about 0.5 cm thick. Cut into triangles.
  7. Starting from the wide end, roll each triangle tightly to form a crescent shape. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Beat the egg and brush it over the cornetti for a golden finish.
  9. Let the cornetti rise for another 20 minutes.
  10. Bake the cornetti in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. While the cornetti are baking, prepare the cappuccino by frothing the milk and combining it with the espresso. Add sugar if desired.
  12. Serve the cappuccino hot alongside the freshly baked cornetti, dusted with powdered sugar.
