Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 250 grams
- Unsalted butter - 150 grams (cold, for the dough)
- Unsalted butter - 50 grams (softened, for spreading)
- Granulated sugar - 30 grams
- Salt - 5 grams
- Instant yeast - 5 grams
- Milk - 125 ml (warm)
- Egg - 1 (beaten, for egg wash)
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 50 ml (cold)
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and cold water. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle, about 1 cm thick. Spread the cold butter (150g) evenly over two-thirds of the dough.
- Fold the unbuttered third over the middle third, then fold the remaining third over the top (like a letter). Roll out again into a rectangle and fold in thirds again. Repeat this process two more times.
- Wrap the dough and refrigerate for 1 hour to allow it to rest.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F). Roll out the dough into a large rectangle again and cut into triangles.
- Roll each triangle from the base to the tip, forming a croissant shape. Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg and let them rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- For the coffee, brew your favorite Halal coffee using your preferred method.
- Serve the warm cornetti with the coffee.
