Ingredients

  • Barley coffee (orzo) - 4 tablespoons (30g)
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Milk (or plant-based milk) - 200 ml
  • Honey (optional) - 1 tablespoon (15g)
  • Cinnamon (optional) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional) - for garnish

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, bring 500 ml of water to a boil.
  2. Once boiling, add 4 tablespoons of barley coffee (orzo) to the water.
  3. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Strain the barley coffee into two cups using a fine mesh strainer.
  5. In the same saucepan, heat 200 ml of milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  6. Froth the milk if desired, then pour it into the cups of barley coffee.
  7. Sweeten with honey and sprinkle cinnamon on top if using.
  8. Garnish with dark chocolate shavings if desired, and serve immediately.
