Ingredients

  • Savoy cabbage - 400 grams
  • Ground beef (80% lean) - 250 grams
  • Crushed tomatoes - 200 grams
  • Onion - 1 small (about 70 grams), diced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Mozzarella cheese - 100 grams, shredded
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and carefully peel off 8 whole leaves.
  3. Blanch the cabbage leaves in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until softened. Remove and drain them on a paper towel.
  4. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Add the ground beef, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-6 minutes.
  6. Stir in the crushed tomatoes and let simmer for another 5 minutes.
  7. In a baking dish, layer some of the ground beef mixture at the bottom. Place 2-3 cabbage leaves on top, then add more beef mixture, followed by another layer of cabbage leaves. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of beef on top.
  8. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  10. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
