Ingredients
- Cabbage - 300 grams
- Ground beef or turkey - 250 grams
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Onion - 1 medium, diced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Carrot - 1 small, diced
- Canned crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
- Tomato paste - 1 tablespoon
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Dried basil - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated (optional)
- Fresh basil leaves - for garnish (optional)
Steps
- Prepare the cabbage by removing the core and shredding it into noodle-like strips.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent (about 3-4 minutes).
- Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the diced carrot and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the carrot begins to soften.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the sauce cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the sauce is simmering, bring a separate pot of salted water to a boil. Add the shredded cabbage noodles and cook for 3-4 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.
- Once the sauce has thickened, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve the sauce over the cabbage noodles, garnishing with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves if desired.
