Ingredients

  • Cabbage - 300 grams
  • Ground beef or turkey - 250 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Onion - 1 medium, diced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Carrot - 1 small, diced
  • Canned crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
  • Tomato paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Dried basil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated (optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves - for garnish (optional)

Steps

  1. Prepare the cabbage by removing the core and shredding it into noodle-like strips.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the diced carrot and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the carrot begins to soften.
  5. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
  6. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let the sauce cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. While the sauce is simmering, bring a separate pot of salted water to a boil. Add the shredded cabbage noodles and cook for 3-4 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.
  8. Once the sauce has thickened, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve the sauce over the cabbage noodles, garnishing with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves if desired.
