Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 400 grams (80% lean)
  • Provolone cheese - 100 grams, sliced
  • Fresh basil - 10 grams, chopped
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Burger buns - 2, preferably whole grain
  • Ripe tomato - 1, sliced
  • Lettuce leaves - 4, for topping
  • Balsamic vinegar - 1 tablespoon (optional)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped basil, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about 2 cm thick.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the beef patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  4. In the last minute of cooking, place slices of provolone cheese on top of each patty and cover the skillet with a lid to melt the cheese.
  5. While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns lightly on a separate pan or in a toaster.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on the bottom half of each bun, followed by slices of tomato and lettuce. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar if desired.
  7. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
