Ingredients

  • firm tofu - 200 grams
  • bread crumbs - 50 grams
  • fresh basil - 10 grams
  • garlic - 1 clove
  • nutritional yeast - 2 tablespoons
  • olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • red chili flakes - 1/4 teaspoon
  • whole grain burger buns - 2
  • tomato - 1, sliced
  • lettuce leaves - 4
  • avocado - 1/2, sliced

Steps

  1. Press the firm tofu to remove excess water, then crumble it into a bowl.
  2. Finely chop the fresh basil and garlic, then add them to the crumbled tofu.
  3. Mix in the bread crumbs, nutritional yeast, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, black pepper, and red chili flakes until well combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into two patties.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little olive oil.
  6. Cook the patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.
  7. While the patties are cooking, toast the whole grain burger buns until lightly browned.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing a tofu patty on each bun, then topping with sliced tomato, lettuce leaves, and avocado.
