Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 400 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh basil - 10 grams, chopped
  • Oregano - 1 teaspoon, dried
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Canned crushed tomatoes - 200 grams
  • Kalamata olives - 50 grams, pitted and sliced
  • Red onion - 1 small, thinly sliced
  • Crusty bread rolls - 2
  • Arugula - 50 grams, for garnish

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, minced garlic, chopped basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and form into 2 patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and browned on the outside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Stir in the sliced olives and cook for an additional 5 minutes until heated through.
  4. Toast the bread rolls lightly in a toaster or on a skillet.
  5. Assemble the burgers by placing the beef patties on the bottom half of each bread roll. Spoon the tomato and olive sauce over the patties, and top with sliced red onion and arugula.
  6. Close the burgers with the top half of the rolls and serve immediately.
