Ingredients
- Beef flank steak - 300g, thinly sliced
- Mozzarella cheese - 100g, shredded
- Parmesan cheese - 50g, grated
- Fresh basil - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Tomato sauce (sugar-free) - 200g
- Red wine (optional) - 50ml
- Toothpicks or kitchen twine - for securing the rolls
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Lay the thinly sliced beef flank steak flat on a clean surface and season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- In a bowl, mix the shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, chopped basil, and minced garlic together to create the filling.
- Place a generous amount of the cheese and herb mixture on one end of each beef slice and roll it tightly. Secure the rolls with toothpicks or kitchen twine.
- In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sear the beef rolls on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the skillet from heat and pour the sugar-free tomato sauce and red wine (if using) over the beef rolls, ensuring they're well covered.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the beef is cooked through and tender.
- Once done, remove the toothpicks or twine, slice the rolls, and serve warm with extra sauce drizzled on top.
