Ingredients

  • Potatoes - 300 grams
  • Green peas - 100 grams (fresh or frozen)
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon (to taste)
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Rice flour - 2 tablespoons (for binding)
  • Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Oil - for shallow frying (about 3 tablespoons)

Steps

  1. Boil the potatoes in a pot of water until they are tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let them cool slightly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mash the boiled potatoes until smooth.
  3. Add the green peas to the mashed potatoes and mash them together until combined.
  4. Stir in the chopped onion, ginger, garlic, green chili, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, salt, black pepper, and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well.
  5. Sprinkle rice flour into the mixture for binding and mix until the mixture holds together.
  6. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into a flat round patty (tikki).
  7. Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the tikkis in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  8. Fry each tikki for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Add more oil as needed.
  9. Remove the tikkis from the pan and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  10. Serve hot with mint chutney or ketchup.
