Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour - 200 grams
  • Water - 120 ml (adjust as needed)
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Additional whole wheat flour - for dusting

Steps

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add water and olive oil to the flour mixture, mixing with your hand or a spoon until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  5. After resting, divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
  6. Dust a clean surface with flour and flatten one dough ball with your hand. Use a rolling pin to roll it out into a thin circle (about 6-8 inches in diameter).
  7. Heat a non-stick skillet or tava over medium-high heat.
  8. Once hot, place the rolled-out roti on the skillet. Cook for about 30 seconds until small bubbles form on the surface.
  9. Flip the roti and cook for another 30 seconds. Press gently with a spatula to encourage it to puff up.
  10. Flip again and cook for an additional 10-15 seconds until golden brown spots appear on both sides.
  11. Remove the roti from the skillet and keep it warm in a cloth. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
  12. Serve the warm rotis with your favorite vegan curry or vegetable dish.
