Ingredients
- Whole wheat flour - 200 grams
- Water - 120 ml (adjust as needed)
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Additional whole wheat flour - for dusting
Steps
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add water and olive oil to the flour mixture, mixing with your hand or a spoon until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- After resting, divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
- Dust a clean surface with flour and flatten one dough ball with your hand. Use a rolling pin to roll it out into a thin circle (about 6-8 inches in diameter).
- Heat a non-stick skillet or tava over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, place the rolled-out roti on the skillet. Cook for about 30 seconds until small bubbles form on the surface.
- Flip the roti and cook for another 30 seconds. Press gently with a spatula to encourage it to puff up.
- Flip again and cook for an additional 10-15 seconds until golden brown spots appear on both sides.
- Remove the roti from the skillet and keep it warm in a cloth. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
- Serve the warm rotis with your favorite vegan curry or vegetable dish.
