Ingredients

  • Tomatoes - 200 grams, chopped
  • Tamarind paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Rasam powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 500 milliliters

Steps

  1. In a pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add the cumin seeds and black pepper, and sauté for a minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the minced garlic and chopped tomatoes, and cook until the tomatoes soften, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the turmeric powder and rasam powder, and cook for another minute.
  5. Add the tamarind paste and water, and bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  7. Season with salt to taste, and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
