- Tomatoes - 200 grams, chopped
- Tamarind paste - 1 tablespoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Rasam powder - 1 tablespoon
- Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 500 milliliters
Steps
- In a pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the cumin seeds and black pepper, and sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Add the minced garlic and chopped tomatoes, and cook until the tomatoes soften, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the turmeric powder and rasam powder, and cook for another minute.
- Add the tamarind paste and water, and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Season with salt to taste, and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
