Ingredients

  • Water - 400 ml
  • Almond milk - 200 ml
  • Black tea leaves - 2 teaspoons
  • Fresh ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Cardamom pods - 4, crushed
  • Cinnamon stick - 1 small piece
  • Cloves - 2
  • Black peppercorns - 2, crushed
  • Sweetener (maple syrup or agave) - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, bring 400 ml of water to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Add the grated ginger, crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, and crushed black peppercorns to the boiling water.
  3. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.
  4. Add 2 teaspoons of black tea leaves to the saucepan and simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. Pour in 200 ml of almond milk and stir well. Allow the chai to heat through for another 2 minutes, but do not let it boil.
  6. Strain the chai into cups using a fine mesh strainer to remove the spices and tea leaves.
  7. Add 1 tablespoon of your chosen sweetener to taste and stir well before serving.
