- Water - 400 ml
- Almond milk - 200 ml
- Black tea leaves - 2 teaspoons
- Fresh ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Cardamom pods - 4, crushed
- Cinnamon stick - 1 small piece
- Cloves - 2
- Black peppercorns - 2, crushed
- Sweetener (maple syrup or agave) - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a saucepan, bring 400 ml of water to a boil over medium heat.
- Add the grated ginger, crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, and crushed black peppercorns to the boiling water.
- Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.
- Add 2 teaspoons of black tea leaves to the saucepan and simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in 200 ml of almond milk and stir well. Allow the chai to heat through for another 2 minutes, but do not let it boil.
- Strain the chai into cups using a fine mesh strainer to remove the spices and tea leaves.
- Add 1 tablespoon of your chosen sweetener to taste and stir well before serving.
