Ingredients
- Chickpeas (cooked) - 400 grams
- Onion - 1 medium (finely chopped)
- Tomato - 2 medium (pureed)
- Green bell pepper - 1 medium (diced)
- Ginger - 1 inch (grated)
- Garlic - 3 cloves (minced)
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - ½ teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Heat oil in a kadai or deep pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Stir in the grated ginger and minced garlic, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the pureed tomatoes and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oil separates from the mixture.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Stir in the cooked chickpeas and diced green bell pepper. Add salt to taste and mix everything together.
- Pour in a splash of water if the mixture is too thick, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the bell pepper is tender.
- Finish with garam masala and a squeeze of lemon juice. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
