Ingredients

  • Chickpeas (cooked) - 400 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium (finely chopped)
  • Tomato - 2 medium (pureed)
  • Green bell pepper - 1 medium (diced)
  • Ginger - 1 inch (grated)
  • Garlic - 3 cloves (minced)
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - ½ teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Heat oil in a kadai or deep pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Stir in the grated ginger and minced garlic, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add the pureed tomatoes and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oil separates from the mixture.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Stir in the cooked chickpeas and diced green bell pepper. Add salt to taste and mix everything together.
  7. Pour in a splash of water if the mixture is too thick, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the bell pepper is tender.
  8. Finish with garam masala and a squeeze of lemon juice. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
