  • Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear, then drain.
  2. In a pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for 30 seconds.
  3. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Add the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the tomato softens, about 5 minutes.
