  • Chickpeas (canned or cooked) - 400 grams

  • Tomato - 1 large, pureed
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated
  • Green chili - 1, slit (optional for heat)
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 2 teaspoons
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil (cooking or coconut oil) - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish
  • Water - 1 cup

Steps

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until they are golden brown.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chili. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add the pureed tomato and cook until the oil separates from the mixture, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Mix in coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for another minute.
  6. Add the chickpeas and water, stirring well. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  7. Let it cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Stir occasionally.
  8. Add garam masala and mix well, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
