Ingredients

  • Water - 500 ml
  • Black tea leaves - 2 tablespoons
  • Almond milk - 300 ml
  • Fresh ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Cardamom pods - 4, crushed
  • Cinnamon stick - 1 small
  • Cloves - 2
  • Black peppercorns - 2
  • Maple syrup - 2 teaspoons (optional)
  • Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, bring 500 ml of water to a boil.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of black tea leaves, grated fresh ginger, crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, and black peppercorns to the boiling water.
  3. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.
  4. Add 300 ml of almond milk to the pot and bring it back to a gentle simmer.
  5. If desired, stir in 2 teaspoons of maple syrup and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  6. Let the chai simmer for an additional 3 minutes, then strain into cups to serve.
