- Water - 500 ml
- Black tea leaves - 2 tablespoons
- Almond milk - 300 ml
- Fresh ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Cardamom pods - 4, crushed
- Cinnamon stick - 1 small
- Cloves - 2
- Black peppercorns - 2
- Maple syrup - 2 teaspoons (optional)
- Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
Steps
- In a saucepan, bring 500 ml of water to a boil.
- Add 2 tablespoons of black tea leaves, grated fresh ginger, crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, and black peppercorns to the boiling water.
- Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.
- Add 300 ml of almond milk to the pot and bring it back to a gentle simmer.
- If desired, stir in 2 teaspoons of maple syrup and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Let the chai simmer for an additional 3 minutes, then strain into cups to serve.
