Vegan Aloo Tikki

- Potatoes - 400 grams (about 2 medium)
- Green peas - 100 grams (fresh or frozen)
- Onion - 1 small (finely chopped)
- Ginger - 1 inch (grated)
- Green chili - 1 (finely chopped, adjust to taste)
- Cilantro (fresh coriander) - 2 tablespoons (chopped)
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Rice flour - 2 tablespoons (for binding)
- Oil - for shallow frying (about 4 tablespoons)
Steps
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let them cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, mash the boiled potatoes until smooth. Add the green peas, finely chopped onion, grated ginger, chopped green chili, and cilantro.
- Season the mixture with cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Sprinkle rice flour over the mixture for binding and mix until well incorporated. If the mixture is too wet, add a little more rice flour.
- Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into a small patty (tikki).
- Heat oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place the patties in the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd.
- Fry the tikki for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the tikki from the skillet and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Serve hot with chutney or vegan yogurt.
