Ingredients
- Pomfret fish - 2 medium-sized (about 300g each)
- Plain yogurt - 150g
- Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
- Ginger paste - 1 tablespoon
- Red chili powder - 2 teaspoons
- Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
- Lemon wedges - for serving
Steps
- Clean and gut the pomfret fish, making shallow cuts on both sides to allow the marinade to penetrate.
- In a bowl, mix the plain yogurt, lemon juice, garlic paste, ginger paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, cumin powder, salt, and vegetable oil to create a smooth marinade.
- Coat the pomfret fish thoroughly with the marinade, ensuring it's well covered inside the cuts and cavity. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for deeper flavor.
- Preheat your grill or tandoor to medium-high heat. If using a charcoal grill, let the coals turn white and ashy.
- Place the marinated pomfret fish on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through and has nice grill marks.
- Once cooked, remove the fish from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with lemon wedges on the side.
