- Moong dal (split green gram) - 100 grams
- Water - 500 ml
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chaat masala - 1 teaspoon
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - to taste
- Cucumber (finely chopped) - 1/2 cup
- Tomato (finely chopped) - 1/2 cup
- Onion (finely chopped) - 1/4 cup
- Green chili (finely chopped) - 1 small
- Cilantro (fresh, chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Sev (crispy chickpea noodles) - for garnish
Steps
- Rinse the moong dal under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a pot, add the moong dal and 500 ml of water. Bring to a boil.
- Add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and salt to the boiling dal. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the dal is soft but not mushy.
- Once cooked, drain any excess water and let the dal cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked moong dal, chopped cucumber, tomato, onion, green chili, and cilantro.
- Add red chili powder, chaat masala, and lemon juice to the mixture. Toss well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
- Serve the Spicy Moong Dal Chaat in bowls, garnished with sev on top for an extra crunch.
