Ingredients

  • Soya chunks - 100 grams
  • Whole wheat burger buns - 2
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Cucumber - 1 small, sliced
  • Green chilies - 1, finely chopped
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh coriander leaves - a handful, chopped
  • Lettuce leaves - 2

Steps

  1. Soak the soya chunks in hot water for about 15 minutes until they are soft, then drain and squeeze out excess water.
  2. In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the soaked soya chunks to the pan along with garam masala, coriander powder, cumin powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Once the mixture is well combined and cooked, remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Then, mix in the chopped coriander leaves.
  6. Divide the soya mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties.
  7. In the same pan, add a little more oil, and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and crispy.
  8. To assemble the burgers, slice the whole wheat buns in half and lightly toast them if desired. Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half, add the cooked patty, and top with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and any additional toppings of your choice.
  9. Cover with the top half of the bun and serve hot.
