Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour - 200 grams
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon (for dough)
  • Potato - 100 grams, boiled and mashed
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon juice - 1 teaspoon
  • Chaat masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - for frying

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft dough. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the boiled and mashed potato, chopped onion, green chili, cilantro, lemon juice, chaat masala, cumin powder, and salt to taste. This will be the filling for the roti roll.
  3. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten it with your palms.
  4. On a floured surface, roll each ball into a thin circle (approximately 6-7 inches in diameter).
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each roti for about 1 minute on each side, until light golden brown. Remove from skillet and keep warm.
  6. Place a generous amount of the potato filling in the center of each roti, fold the sides over the filling, and then roll it up tightly to form a roll.
  7. In the same skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat and briefly fry each rolled roti for 1-2 minutes on each side until crispy and golden.
  8. Serve hot, optionally with mint chutney or yogurt on the side.
